I don’t care what anybody says, I am now a Mk1 owner.

Got it off the tow truck, gassed it up, and went for a 5 ish mile drive to see how quickly it would overheat with the cracked radiator. It did not. I’ll still put a new radiator in.

The 1.8L EA827 (unsure on the exact code) motor is very buzzy. 2nd pops out and grinds if you don’t double clutch. The interior is a little rough if you look for more than ten seconds, and the body is good from ten feet.

Short term plan and goal: wrench as parts arrive and get the car running in tip top shape, because on Saturday... I want to run it in a hillclimb. A friend already checked, any vehicle is good to run in it, even “newer” stuff like my Cabriolet. There's also a TDS rally that I may run if I don't want to do the hillclimb.

I’ve always loved those. It looks like an awesome find. You make me wish I bought one when they were $1k for one in daily driver shape.

I mean, this one only cost $900 and needs radiator and brake master cylinder replaced, so I guess what I’m saying is go buy on e right now. Join the mo vement.

There's one across the river from Portsmouth, Ohio I was gonna look at that looked to be in really good shape but needed tires and gas tank cleaned. The ask on that was $900. Could probably be lowballed for like... $750?

There is an autox Sunday, but the event schedule says tech is Saturday (for all 3 events, hillclimb, TSD rally, autox). But do check it out!

Same - pickings have gotten slim on CL here , although I did buy my most recent beater on CL still. I just don’t like Facebook marketplace near as much. The search sucks there as it only shows me what it thinks I want to see instead of what I asked it for.

Can confirm it sucks. I've been able to find things I want... mostly. I think it's mostly bad by design to get you to pay to "boost" your listing.

Ebay’s been doing the same too, normal listings get pushed down as ‘promoted’ ones sell.

Luckily the stuff I sell on ebay is niche enough that I've never experienced that. Still annoying.
